Why Most Solar Lights Fail (And Why Ours Don't)
Most people who try solar lights once never buy them again. The reason is simple: the cheap supermarket products fail at the first frost. Here's what goes wrong, and what we do differently:
The four ways cheap solar lights die
• NiMH batteries — cheap supermarket lights use Nickel-Metal-Hydride batteries that lose 80% of their capacity below freezing. By December, they barely work. By March, they're dead permanently.
• Polycrystalline solar panels — older panel tech with 14% efficiency. They can't recharge fully on the short, cloudy days of a German autumn.
• Plastic housings — UV-exposed plastic cracks within 2–3 years. Water gets in. Electronics fail.
• Non-replaceable batteries — even when the LED still works, the sealed battery becomes the failure point. The entire fixture goes in the Restmüll.

Wie lange hält der Akku?
Depends on the chemistry. Our standard Li-ion 18650 cells last 500–800 full charge cycles — roughly 3–5 years of daily use. Our LiFePO4 cells (premium models) last 3,000+ cycles — roughly 8–10 years. After that, the light still works, just with shorter run-time. On most of our models the battery is user-replaceable for €15–€25.
Ist der Akku wechselbar?
On most models, yes — we deliberately favour products with standard 18650 or 21700 lithium cells you can buy anywhere. This is one of the key reasons our products outlast supermarket equivalents. Check the individual product page for confirmation.
Sind die Leuchten wirklich wasserdicht?
All products in this category are IP65 minimum (sealed against jet water from any direction). Several models are IP67 (immersion-proof, suitable for buried path lights). Independent IP testing certificates are available on request for commercial buyers.

Brauche ich für Solarleuchten eine Genehmigung vom Bauamt?
No. Solar lights are stand-alone fixtures with no mains connection, so they don't trigger Bauamt approval requirements that apply to mains installations. Only exception: if you're mounting a large solar street lamp on a property boundary, your local Gemeinde may have setback rules. Standard garden, motion-sensor and small driveway lights need no permission whatsoever.
