EV Chargers for Every Car on European Roads

The European EV market has changed faster than most people realise. In 2025, the three most-improved car brands in Germany were all Chinese: BYD, Leapmotor and MG. BYD alone now sells more EVs in Europe than every brand except Volkswagen and BMW. Tesla still leads on individual models, but the badges in Aldi car parks now read BYD Seal, MG4, Polestar 2, Leapmotor T03, XPeng G6 — alongside the familiar IDs and Mégane E-Techs.

Whatever you drive, they all share one connector: Type 2 (IEC 62196). That's the European charging standard, and every GiraffeVolt charger is built around it. Plug in with confidence, no matter where the car was assembled.

Our range covers two needs:

A permanently installed wallbox for daily home charging

A portable Type 2 charger for trips, weekend homes and emergencies

Every product is CE-certified, IEC 61851 compliant and built to a standard that passes German TÜV inspection. Two-year warranty included.

Home Wallbox Chargers — 7 kW to 22 kW

Our WallBox S1 and S2 lines are designed for European homes. The 7 kW single-phase models charge most EVs overnight from a standard household connection. The 22 kW three-phase models add up to ~100 km of range per hour for drivers who need fast turnaround.

WallBox S1 (7 kW) — single-phase 32 A. The right choice for apartments, terraced houses and any home without three-phase Drehstrom. Ideal for BYD Atto 3, Nissan Leaf, Leapmotor T03.

WallBox S1 Pro (22 kW) — three-phase 32 A fast charger. The fastest AC speed you can install at home in Germany. Note: only some cars accept the full 22 kW AC — most cap at 11 kW. The wallbox still works perfectly with 11 kW cars (it just charges them at 11 kW max).

WallBox S2 (7 kW) & S2 Pro (22 kW) — slim design with the same performance and a wall-friendly footprint.

Certifications & German Compliance

CE marked — required for all EU sales.

TÜV Rheinland tested — independent third-party verification, recognised across Germany.

IEC 61851-1 — international standard for EV conductive charging systems.

         IEC 62196-2 — Type 2 connector standard.

CB Scheme — international electrical safety certification.

UKCA & FCC — for export across the wider European market.

German Installation Requirements (Important)

Before installing a wallbox in Germany, you should know:

Anmeldepflicht (Registration) — every wallbox ≥3.7 kW must be registered with your local Netzbetreiber (grid operator). This is free and done by your electrician.

Genehmigungspflicht (Approval) — wallboxes ≥12 kW also require approval from the Netzbetreiber before installation.

§14a EnWG — since January 2024, all new wallboxes ≥4.2 kW must be dimmable by the grid operator under defined conditions. Our 11 kW and 22 kW models support this requirement.

Qualified electrician required — installation by a registered Elektrofachkraft is mandatory in Germany, Austria, and most EU countries. We don't sell DIY-install kits for hardwired wallboxes.

Förderung note: the federal KfW programme that subsidised home wallboxes (KfW 440, KfW 442) has ended. Some Bundesländer and municipal utilities still offer regional subsidies — check with your local Stadtwerke before you buy.

Portable EV Chargers

A portable charger is the most underrated accessory an EV driver can own. Our 3.5 kW (16 A) portable models plug into a standard Schuko socket and let you top up wherever you can find a household outlet — at a holiday rental, a friend's house, a campsite in Saxony, a Ferienwohnung on the Baltic coast, or anywhere a public charger isn't an option.

16 A / 3.5 kW output with Schuko plug (CEE 7/7) for standard EU sockets

Type 2 connector — works with every EU-spec EV (Chinese, European, Korean, Japanese, American)

         Built-in LCD display, adjustable amperage (6 A / 10 A / 13 A / 16 A), over-current and over-temperature protection

Carry case included — fits in any boot

CE certified, compliant with IEC 61851-1

Why Buy Your Charger from GiraffeVolt

EU company, EU rules — GiraffeVolt OÜ is registered in Estonia and operates under full EU consumer protection law. Two-year statutory warranty (Gewährleistung) is not a marketing claim — it's the legal minimum we're required to provide.

Ships from Berlin — orders leave our German fulfilment centre. Most German destinations in 2–3 working days, rest of the EU in 2–5 days.

Genuine certifications — every product carries CE plus the TÜV / IEC / CB certifications you'd expect from a German-market product. We don't sell grey-import equipment.

Works with every European EV — Chinese, German, Korean, Japanese, American. Type 2 is Type 2.

Honest pre-sales advice — email us with your car model and your home electrical setup. We'll recommend what actually fits — even if it's the cheaper option.

14-day no-questions return — EU Fernabsatzrecht. If you change your mind, send it back.

Frequently Asked — EV Chargers

Do your wallboxes work with my BYD?

Yes — all BYD models sold in Europe (Atto 3, Seal, Dolphin, Dolphin Surf, Han, Tang, Sealion) use the Type 2 connector. The Atto 3 charges at up to 7 kW AC, so our 7 kW S1 is a perfect match. The Seal, Dolphin and other newer models charge at up to 11 kW AC — the 22 kW S1 Pro is the recommended pick (it will charge them at the car's maximum 11 kW rate).

Do your wallboxes work with my MG?

Yes. Every MG EV sold in Europe (MG4, MG5, MG ZS EV, Marvel R, Cyberster) uses Type 2 and accepts up to 11 kW AC. The S1 Pro 22 kW or the S1 7 kW both work — choose based on whether you have three-phase power at home.

Do your wallboxes work with Tesla?

Yes. Tesla switched to the Type 2 connector in Europe in 2018, so Model 3, Model Y, and recent Model S/X all plug in directly. Only older Model S/X with the proprietary Tesla connector need a Tesla-supplied adapter.

7 kW or 22 kW — which one do I need?

Start with your electrical installation, then check your car:

Single-phase power at home (most German apartments and older houses) → 7 kW is your ceiling. Buy the WallBox S1 7 kW.

Three-phase power (Drehstrom) at home → you have the option of 22 kW. Buy the WallBox S1 Pro 22 kW.

Most cars cap at 11 kW AC (every BYD except Atto 3, every MG, every VW-group EV, every Tesla in Europe). A 22 kW wallbox still works perfectly with these — it just charges them at the car's max 11 kW rate.

A few cars can actually use 22 kW AC: Renault Mégane E-Tech, Zeekr 001, some Audi e-tron variants.

Do I need an electrician to install a wallbox in Germany?

Yes. In Germany, installation must be done by a registered Elektrofachkraft, and the wallbox must be registered with your local Netzbetreiber (Anmeldepflicht for 3.7 kW+, Genehmigungspflicht for 12 kW+). Your electrician will handle the registration paperwork as part of the install.

Is my wallbox §14a EnWG compliant?

Yes — our 11 kW and 22 kW WallBox models support the steuerbare-Verbrauchseinrichtung requirement that came into force in January 2024. Your electrician will configure this during commissioning.

My EV is from a brand I don't see listed — will it still work?

Almost certainly yes. Every BEV sold new in the EU since 2014 uses the Type 2 standard. If your car was sold new in Europe and isn't a 2014-or-older Tesla, our chargers will work with it. Send us the model and we'll confirm.
