The BYD Sealion 7 is a large SUV with a large battery: 82.5 kWh or 91.3 kWh depending on the version. Every version has an 11 kW three-phase onboard charger, so the choice of home charger comes down to your electricity supply.
Sealion 7 home charging at a glance
| Battery | Max AC charging | 20–100% at 11 kW | 20–100% at 7 kW |
|---|---|---|---|
| 82.5 kWh | 11 kW | About 6.5 hours | About 10.5 hours |
| 91.3 kWh | 11 kW | About 7.5 hours | About 11.5 hours |
Times are approximate and include typical charging losses. Very cold weather adds time while the car warms the battery.
Which wall box to buy
- Three-phase supply: the WallBox S2 11 kW. With a battery this size, 11 kW is what makes a full refill fit into one night.
- Single-phase supply: the WallBox S2 7 kW. Fine for daily top-ups; a full charge from low takes a long night.
- 22 kW: the Sealion 7 stays at 11 kW, so buy 22 kW only if another EV at home can use it.
Why a household socket is not enough
At about 2.3 kW, a socket adds roughly 10 km of range per hour to a heavy SUV. Refilling the 82.5 kWh battery from 20% would take well over a day. The supplied portable cable is useful on trips and at a summer house, but for a car this size a wall box is the practical daily solution.
Planning the installation
An 11 kW charger draws 16 A on each of the three phases for hours at a time. Before installing, your electrician should check that your main fuse can carry that together with heating, cooking and the rest of the house. If it is tight, the charger's maximum current can often be set lower during installation.
Everyday use
Most days you will add 10–20 kWh, not a full battery. On an 11 kW wall box that takes one to two hours, so the car can charge in the cheapest night hours on an exchange-price electricity contract.
The cable
The Sealion 7 uses Type 2 for AC and CCS2 for DC. For public AC chargers without a fixed cable, carry a 22 kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable.
FAQ
How fast does the Sealion 7 charge at DC rapid chargers?
Up to 150 kW for the standard versions and up to 230 kW for the top version with the 91.3 kWh battery. That is for road trips; at home you always charge on AC.
Can I charge to 100%?
The Blade battery uses LFP cells, which handle full charges well, and BYD recommends a full charge regularly. Follow your owner's manual.
Does it support vehicle-to-load?
Yes, all versions support V2L.
