Keeps the Fridge, the Lights and the Internet Running
This is the size where a power station stops being a camping gadget and becomes real backup. 1,024Wh of storage and 1,200 W of continuous output run a kitchen fridge, the router, lights, a TV and a microwave — and it recharges from the wall in about 1.5 hours.
Who It's For
- Homes that lose power — fridge, internet, lights and phones through a blackout
- Vans, caravans and boats — a fridge running for days, topped up by solar
- Summer houses and cabins without a reliable mains supply
- Trades and site work — tools and lights where there is no socket
What Will It Actually Run?
| Device | How long |
|---|---|
| Kitchen fridge | About 14 hours |
| Router, phones and a few lights | More than a day |
| Laptop | About 14 hours |
| TV | About 8.5 hours |
| Microwave (1,000 W) | About 50 minutes of actual use |
| Gas boiler pump and controls | Through a long winter evening |
Note: a typical kettle draws 2,000–3,000 W, more than this unit's 1,200 W. A low-power travel kettle of up to 1,200 W will work; for a full-size kettle, choose the TD2400.
Three Ways to Charge It
- Wall socket — 1,200 W fast charging, full in about 1.5 hours
- Car socket — while you drive
- Solar panels — see below
Charging It From Solar
- Solar input: up to 400 W (MPPT).
- Recommended: two of our 200 W folding panels — the manufacturer's own recommended pairing.
- Time to full from empty: roughly 4–5 hours of good direct sun with two panels — a full refill in one sunny day. With a single 200 W panel, allow about twice as long.
- In a van or cabin this means you can run the fridge overnight and put it all back the next day.
Using panels you already own? Email them to support@giraffevolt.shop and we will check the voltage and the connector before you buy.
Not a Home Battery — and That Is a Good Thing
It is not wired into your house, so there is no electrician, no permit and no installation cost. You plug appliances straight into it, and it moves with you — house, van, cabin.
Why LiFePO4 Matters
LiFePO4 is thermally stable, copes better with the cold than ordinary lithium-ion, and is safe to leave plugged in permanently — exactly how a backup unit should live. The manufacturer rates the battery to keep about 80% of its capacity after 800 full charge cycles. As a backup unit that is only fully cycled during outages, it will take many years to reach that point.
Questions People Ask
Will it really run my fridge?
Yes. A fridge averages around 60 W with short start-up spikes, which this unit handles comfortably. Expect about 14 hours.
Can it power my whole house?
No. It covers what you plug into it: fridge, lights, internet, phones and medical devices.
What does 1,200 W mean in practice?
Add up what you want to run at the same time. A fridge, router, lights and a TV together are a few hundred watts — fine. A hairdryer or a heater alone is usually over 1,200 W.
Can I charge it in winter?
It runs down to -20°C but should be charged between 0°C and 40°C. Keep it indoors between outages and it is always ready.
How heavy is it?
16.5 kg, with carry handles. It moves between rooms or into a car easily, but it is not something you carry to a tent.
